Mother’s Day Tea Essentials

With Mother’s Day being under a week away, we thought that we would share a few essentials required for a quintessential Mother’s Day afternoon tea! So grab your quirkiest fascinator, your loveliest sundress & be sure to erect those pinky fingers because we’ve got the low-down on everything you need to know about hosting your mom for afternoon tea this Sunday!

Everything You Need to Host Mother’s Day Tea!

I think that we can all unanimously agree that moms are literal, real life Super Heroes and they deserve to be spoiled to the absolute FULLEST on Mother’s Day! SO, to properly commemorate this special occasion, I wanted to share some of my personal favourite afternoon tea staples so that you can spoil your momma this Sunday with THE loveliest of afternoon teas!

Afternoon tea and Mother’s Day are synonymous with one another! Not to mention, it’s a totally foolproof activity to treat your mom to this Sunday, and it also presents the most perfect opportunity for the two of you to spend some quality time together! Enjoy!

The Tea

Between flavor and brands… we honestly have SUCH a wide variety of tea here at Ambrosia so it really depends on yours and your mother’s personal preference! If you’re looking to go for something a little bit more on the “spring” side of things, it might be fun to take a look at some of the more floral teas that we carry here! Ie. Jasmine, rose etc.

And if you would like to replicate a TRUE afternoon tea experience, why not select a few different varieties and have them on display for your mom so that she can pick and choose a few different teas that she would like to try out! This makes the whole event a bit more authentic and a true experience that the two of you can enjoy!

The Food

Finger foods for afternoon tea are just the absolute BEST! They’re light, delicious & just the perfect size that always leaves you wanting just that little bit more! I had a quick browse of the recipes on our website and felt that the two below would be PERFECT desserts for the occasion!

Sweet Potato Walnut Bread

Gluten Free Vanilla Almond Moon Cookies

And of COURSE I had to include some mini tea sandwiches – simply pick up some bread (gluten free options available!) and make each of the below for a little bit of assortment! They are some of my absolute favourite combinations!

  • Cucumber and grass fed butter
  • Avocado, bacon, tomato
  • Cold cuts with lettuce and grass fed butter
  • Egg salad sandwich – using free-range eggs!

The Décor

This is where things start to get fun! The décor is my very favourite part about hosting afternoon tea! Every single year my mother, my grandmother and I celebrate Mother’s Day with tea at my parent’s house, and my absolute favourite part is helping my mom assemble the table! Below are a few tips I tend to stick by:

  • White or neutral tablecloth – using a neutral tablecloth will allow the rest of your décor and the teacups and saucers to truly pop and stand out!
  • Florals and greenery – fresh flowers always help to bring life and a pop of colour to a tablescape! Try using seasonal flowers like peonies, tulips or garden roses to make it a bit more festive! Tip: Add citrus like lemons and oranges to a patterned, decorative bowl to add a bit more dimension to the décor on your tablescape!
  • Eclectic assortment of tea cups and saucers – if you have a couple different tea sets, be sure to use a few different pieces from each set for a more eclectic, playful vibe -it’s very Mad Hatter’s Tea Party-esqe!
  • Colourful linens – Incorporate pastel or bright coloured linens to amp up the spring and summer vibes!

Will you be hosting Mother’s Day tea this year?!
