Yes, now that Thanksgiving has come and gone, it’s now officially time to focus our attention onto Halloween! We decided to increase the “spook factor” with a few Halloween recipes crafted using one of October’s Super Specials…. Crofter’s Organics Premium Spreads! Who knew jam could be so scary right?!
3 Spooky Halloween Recipes Using Crofters Organics
Anyone else STILL feeling incredibly full from Thanksgiving dinner?! I can’t even believe that I am even thinking about food after having stuffed my face yesterday with all of that delicious, Thanksgiving goodness!! However, delectable Halloween treats must be discussed, concocted & tasted – it’s a hard job…. but somebody’s go to do it!
Oh who am I kidding… I LOVE discussing Halloween Treats!
This week, I’m using Crofters Organics Premium Spreads to show you guys a few different ways to amp up the spooky factor this month! And despite the fact that these are some seriously, spooky treats… the ingredient list for Crofters Organics?! Well – not so spooky!
Most conventional jams are sweetened with sugar, corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup!!! GASP! What’s the deal with corn syrup anyways? Why is it such a scary ingredient? WELL… it all has to do with the way corn syrup is actually made! When corn syrup is made, glucose and fructose become separated through a specific chemical process. Because of this step, the fructose is then able to go directly into your liver, causing lipogenesis (AKA fat production).
YIKES!
The GOOD news is that Crofters Organics is actually sweetened with Organic, Fair Trade Cane Sugar! NOT corn syrup! It actually lists only 5 ingredients with Organic Fruit (which fruit exactly, depends on the flavour) as being the very first ingredient listed! So you can breathe a sigh of relief knowing that these tasty Halloween Jam treats are more on the healthy side of things! ENJOY!
Vampire “Mocktails”!
For the “Mocktail”
- 2 tablespoons of Crofter’s Organic Strawberry OR Raspberry Fruit Spread
- Zevia Lemon Lime Twist
- Ice
- Vampire Teeth
- Straw
For the “Red Blood”
- Honey
- Pomegranate juice, beet juice OR beet powder
Directions
- Fill two separate cups with ice
- Add the fruit spread to the glass
- Fill the remainder of glass with the Zevia Lemon Lime Twist
- Place a straw through each set of vampire teeth & put them into your cocktail!
- Rim your glass with red edible blood
- Serve!
Spooky Pb & J Spiders!
Ingredients
- Gluten free bread
- Chocolate chips
- Crofters Organics Premium Spreads (flavour of choice)
- Nuts to You – Organic Peanut Butter (on SALE)
- Pretzel Sticks
- Circle cookie cutter
Directions
- Use the circular cookie cutter to cut out circles in the gluten free bread
- Spread jam & peanut butter onto one side of the bread circles
- Top this with another circle of bread
- Insert four pretzel sticks into each side of the sandwich to create the “spider legs”
- Add two chocolate chips to each top of the sandwich to create the “spider eyes”
- Serve!
Severed Finger Sugar Cookies
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Coconut Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Coconut Oil
- 2tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/3 Cup Almond Milk
- 1 Cup Coconut Flour
- 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
- 1/2 tsp Baking Powder
- 2 tbsp Potato Starch
- Sliced almonds
- Crofters Organics Raspberry Jam
Directions
- Add Sugar and coconut oil into a bowl
- Mix
- Add in vanilla extract and almond milk
- In another bowl, add the dry ingredients (baking soda, baking powder, potato starch & coconut flour)
- Mix
- Add in the dry ingredients with the wet ingredients & mix
- Allow the mixture to sit on the counter, while you turn on the oven to 350.
- Take balls of the mixture and mold them into finger-like shapes – they will likely try to crumble on you: DON’T LET THEM – I molded them directly on the pan
- Take a fork & make two sets of indentations on the finger cookies – place them where knuckles should go!
- Place an almond slice at the tip of the cookie – these are the nails… they look SUPER real
- Pop them in the oven & bake for 13 minutes
- Take cookies out of the oven & let them sit for about 10-15 minutes to cool
- Dip the end of each finger cookie into the Crofters jam (for the blood!)
- Serve!
Pumpkin Cookie Sandwiches
Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 tsp Ambrosia’s Own vanilla extract
- 2 tsp Ambrosia’s Own almond extract
- 2 1/3 cups Ambrosia’s Own Brown Rice Flour
- 1 cup NOW Natural Almond Flour
- Crofters Organics Apricot Jam
- 1 Cup powdered sugar
- Pumpkin shaped cookie cutter
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Spray several cookie sheets with cooking spray
- With a mixer, beat the butter with sugar until light and fluffy
- Add vanilla extract and almond extract ,beat until incorporated
- Stir in the flour and almonds. Work flour mixture into firm dough
- Roll out dough so that it is flat on a counter space
- Take cookie cutter and make several pumpkin shaped dough
- Place on greased cookie sheets and repeat until all dough is used
- Bake 12-15 minutes or until light brown
- Remove and let cool
- On half of the cookies, spread the Apricot Jam
- Place the other half of the cookies on top of the cookies with apricot jam to make a sandwich
- Serve!
