Everything You Need to Host an Ice Cream Social!

I scream, you scream, we all scream for … ice cream socials! This summer, cool off in style by setting up a retro inspired sundae bar! Invite guests to step on into your very own old-fashioned ice cream parlour for a party that focuses on ice cream as its central theme! Because who wouldn’t want a party centered all around ice-cream?! And by the way… did we mention that it was dairy-free ice cream… that’s on SALE this month?! Yep… best ice cream social EVER.

How to Host an Ice Cream Social

I can’t think of a better time than August to host an ice cream social!! Not to mention, with all of the insanely hot weather we’ve been having this summer, you can’t NOT have an ice cream party! There’s something so nostalgic about a retro ice cream parlour, so I wanted to try and capture that within this particular ice cream social! It’s something that both adults and the kids will enjoy… and super easy to throw together last minute too!

So without further ado… here’s everything you need to host an ice cream social!

Here’s What You’ll Need!

The Sundae Bar

  • A variety of So Delicious Dairy Free Ice Cream – on SALE this month for just $4.44/ea!
  • Assortment of nuts and candies from our bulk section – Brazil nuts are on SALE this month for just $8.88/lb
  • Chopped strawberries, banana and cherries
  • Gluten-free ice cream cones
  • An assortment of Zevia or Le Croix flavours (for those who would like to make ice cream floats!)
  • Preserve Compostable Straws

How to Arrange the Sundae Bar

  1. Arrange the nuts, candies, chopped strawberries, banana and cherries into separate decorative bowls and display them along a table
  2. Fill a bucket with ice, add Zevia and Le Croix into the bucket to keep them cool. Place on the table.
  3. Add Preserve straws to a mason jar and place beside the Zevia
  4. Line up your flavours of So Delicious Ice Cream with an ice cream scoop and cones placed beside so that guests can pick their flavour and start adding their toppings!

The Décor

Now for the fun part! An ice cream bar should feel very fun and whimsical! In order to really capture that retro ice cream parlour feel, look for black and white checkered table cloths for your sundae bar setup, and hang a pale pink flag banner along the front of this table! You should also try looking for serving dishes or bowls that are in the same pale, pastel pink to display your ice cream ingredients in! This will help create contrast against the black and white checkered table cloth while ALSO giving the ice cream vignette a “throw-back” sort of vibe. To really drive the whole “retro” theme home, print off vintage ice cream parlour signs and display them in frames, and arrange these parlour signs throughout your sundae bar!

The Ensemble

Encourage your guests to embrace the theme of your party by dressing up in retro ensembles! Think full skirts, stripe, polka dots, fun colours… the options are endless! This will really help bring your whole retro ice cream parlour to life!
