Eat THIS, Not THAT… Healthier Super Bowl Alternatives

Game Day is upon us, and whether or not you’re a hardcore football fanatic, or simply just a curious “bandwagon-er”, watching merely for the infamous Super Bowl commercials, you have to admit… the food served at Super Bowl parties is ALWAYS drool-worthy. Pizza, wings, burgers, nachos… the list of delicious football fare is absolutely endless! However, we’re going to wager that your body may not feel so great once the final touchdown has been made, because while this food is incredibly delicious… it’s most definitely NOT nutritious. So today, we’re sharing 3 healthier alternatives to eat at this years’ Super Bowl Party!

Healthy Football Foods – Brit, Team Ambrosia

So I have to admit, I’m definitely one of those individuals that watches zero football games, and then once Super Bowl rolls around, I’m front and centre, foam finger in hand, and placing all kinds of fun “Game Day” bets on teams I know absolutely nothing about. Yes, I’m a bandwagon-er, and although I do enjoy watching said sporting events, I mainly come for the food. Which, as mentioned above, may TASTE great, but is not so great for your health and wellbeing.

So in an effort to maintain my bandwagon “Super Bowl” status, while still enjoying everything this particular day has to offer, I’m listing off three healthier alternatives to your quintessential game day food lineup!

Eat THIS, Not THAT – 3 Healthier Super Bowl Snacks

1. Pizza

Eat THIS – Pizza from either Amy’s or Daiya is going to be your best bet, health-wise, come Game Day! BOTH of these brands “deliver” on the health and tasty factor! Ambrosia crowd favourite? Amy’s Roasted Vegetable Pizza with no cheese! This particular pizza is topped with organic shitake mushrooms, roasted red peppers, sweet onions and marinated artichoke hearts! One serving of this particular pizza variety contains just 9g of fat, 280 calories and ZERO mg of cholesterol.

Not THAT – ANY Pizza Delivery, particularly if you’re ordering a deep-dish variety (a Super Bowl favourite)!!!! First of all, I’m thinking that you’re going to be waiting on this order for, oh I don’t know, a gazillion hours because it’s Super Bowl and likely one of their busiest days of the year! Not to mention, I looked into the nutrition content of a single serving of a popular deep dish pizza brand… 410 calories, 19g of fat, and 38mg of cholesterol for ONE SLICE!

 2. Chicken Wings

Eat THIS – Chicken wings may very well be the King of all Super Bowl snacks, so we obviously had to include a healthier alternative in here! Yorkshire Valley Farms offers organic, Non-GMO chicken wings that are pesticide-free and raised without the use of antibiotics! These chicken wings, without sauce, are 222 calories, 16g of fat, and contain 77mg of cholesterol! Pro Tip: Be sure to BAKE these wings, instead of frying them! This will make a HUGE difference in the health department!

Not THAT – FRIED or BATTERED wings!!! Stay away! Although they may be tasty, you’re doing yourself NO favours by consuming this type of wing! Not to mention, chicken wings from a restaurant or delivery service are more than likely going to contain preservatives and chemical junk! For 100g of breaded chicken wings from your standard delivery service, you’re looking at 324 calories, 21.6g of fat and 702mg of cholesterol. YIKES!

 3. Nachos

Eat THIS – Gluten Free Round Tortilla Chips from Neal Brothers are a GREAT option for Super Bowl Sunday! Pair this with a little guacamole, and you’re good to go for Game Day! High in Vitamin K, Folate, Vitamin C, Potassium and B Vitamins… avocados pack quite the nutritional punch, and can help amp up the health factor on Super Bowl Sunday! Not to mention, there are a grand total of only THREE ingredients listed on Neal Brothers Gluten Free Round Tortilla Chips, and they are gluten, dairy AND nut free… not to mention kosher and organic!

Not THAT- Loaded Conventional Nacho Chips! You know those nachos piled high with sour cream, chili, cheese, salsa, guacamole, beans… and almost everything ELSE in your kitchen?! Yes… those. For a full serving of loaded nachos at a popular, Canadian restaurant you’re looking at 1,780 calories, 98g of fat, 185mg of cholesterol and 4,490mg of sodium!!!! I’ll think that I’ll stick with my gluten free tortilla chips and guacamole, thanks!!!

What are you eating this Super Bowl?!
